STEPPENWOLF

Miami's Marine Stadium (the stage actually floated in Biscayne Bay). 1984, I think.

At Auburn University, about 1970 or maybe 1971. Before going to the show we visited my cousin Pam, an Auburn student. When she said she wasn't going, I thought: a Steppenwolf concert? Right here on campus? And you're NOT GOING? This simply lay utterly beyond my comprehension.

I have only two pictures from my Instamatics that I could bring to any condition worth printing here (and these took quite a bit of work!).

It seems amazing now to look at pictures of major groups from the late 60's and even up to about 1970 or so: nothing but instruments and amps on stage. No elaborate sets, just a curtain backdrop, no special effects—just the music! From the opening Sookie, Sookie to Mars Bonfire's inevitable powerhouse finale, Born to be Wild, a great show all the way through.
