The course consists of a quietly scenic out-and-back on the Natchez Trace Parkway, west of Clinton. The director kindly offered a 7:00 a.m. early start. I arrived at 6:20 a.m. and was almost ready when I heard a call for the early start at 6:30; I had to scramble to make it. Maybe a dozen of us set off in the dark. By about m2 I had adequate daylight, albeit through the cloud cover that would prevail for most of the day.
. Relentless traffic on the Natchez Trace Parkway I must have faded into some altered consciousness during m25, because coming around a curve I found the finish earlier than I'd expected (in relationship to m25, not my time overall). The crew began dismantling the finish line right after I came through. No more pizza left. Shucks.
